Partial Solar Eclipse early on Tuesday 4th January

A partial eclipse of the Sun will be visible in Spain and throughout other parts of Europe in the early hours of the morning of Tuesday 4th January. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring Earth's view of the Sun.

The better view in Spain will be in the eastern part of the country as the sun rises from about 8:20 am with the optimum phase being seen at approximately 8:58 am.

Experts remind the public to take precautions when viewing the phenomenon and not to look directly at the sun without full adequate eye protection.
