It is back to my normal selection method to give a variety of subjects for this week's offering of the daily photographs I have posted to Twitter and Facebook. They are in chronological, date order.

I find the intricacy of the roots interaction fascinating. If this is above the ground what is it like below. Another wonder of nature.

I thought it was getting a bit too close to me.

I photographed this example of our daily lunchtime salad because I like the different colours - not to show that we strive to eat our 5-a-day fruit/vegetables.

My Short Story in 'The Best of CaféLit 3'.

I am proud to say that I believe I can now consider myself as a writer: one of my short stories has been included in the anthology 'The Best of CaféLit 3'.

A collection of 'The Best of …' stories posted on the CaféLit ezine in 2013 – which includes my short story, 'Mrs Prendacast's Handbag' – has recently been published in paperback and e-book format for the Amazon Kindle. Both options are available here.

In July 2013 I was pleased that the story was published on the CaféLit website and the CaféLit Creative Café Project weblog, which have connections with the Salford University. These are published as part of The Creative Café Project.

Abandoned Apartments Mountain - Sierra Apartamentos Abandonados - Photograph Gallery.

I thought I would try something different with my daily photographs: rather than have various subjects each day I will have a theme for this week.

Granada has its Sierra Nevada, Orihuela has its Sierra de Escalona whilst Orihuela Costa has its Sierra Apartamentos Abandonados.

The skeletons of the abandoned constructions are not included in the Tourist Information packages. I thought I might do my bit to show different aspects of them that might not be normally seen.

The start of a long climb to dizzy heights.

I'm sure I saw a notice on the ground floor 'Please use the stairs as the lifts are temporarily out of order'.

There can be some degree of 'Basic Beauty'.

This is the final photograph of my 'Sierra Apartamentos Abandonados' week. As you can see nature is battling to reclaim the natural environment – but greedy humans will win the war to destroy what's left of it!

You will notice that there are eight images as I have decided to make Sunday the week-end day from now on.

I was trying to think of a title for this conceptual photograph, at the same time listening to Lou Bega's version of Mambo 5, when it came to me.

Following reports that no one had seen Mr Santa Claus for approximately 10 months we discovered him this morning (26 October 2014) sleeping rough in Orihuela Costa, Costa Blanca, Spain.

The sunlight adds jewelled highlights to the gossamer wings of the dragonfly. By the way; do you think it has a comical looking face?

I hope you enjoyed looking at this first week's effort. Don't forget you can click on any photograph to see an enlarged view. I've had some frustrating times trying to master different photo-editing programs but I think I'm getting better.

Of course I have set myself a problem - do I have enough varied photographs for future weeks.
